Charmas (Mac)
Charmas consists of two font utilities that are helpful in selecting fonts and producing professional-quality specimen sheets. The first utility, FontFinder, is a window consisting of four parts. The first is a search field at the top that can be used to locate specific fonts, or fonts containing a specific word, such as "gothic." All of the fonts that meet that criteria appear below the search field, in the upper left part of the window, with the available font styles (regular, italic, bold, etc.) appearing to the right. A specimen of the selected font appears in the lower half of the window in sample text that can be set by the user. In the lower right corner of the window are controls for setting the font size (9 points to 288 points) and general view size (100-300%) of the specimen.
The second utility, FontBook, provides the choice of four specimen sheet layouts. When opened, the installed fonts appear in a list at the top of the window. The first font is displayed in the main window in the default view which consigns the entire page to a display of a single font. Other views can show up to two fonts per page. The user can use the two arrows at the top of the window to move through the font list, or use the drop down to select a particular font. Users can output pages as PDF or TIFF files or print a single page or an entire catalog. Approx. $24 U.S.
